Short North Neighborhood

The trendy, eclectic neighborhood of Short North is known as the “art and soul” of Columbus, Ohio. Any Columbus insider would call this Art District neighborhood an exciting, invigorating place to call home. In fact, home and rental prices have both risen recently, along with Short North’s popularity.

The neighborhood’s name derives from the saying that this area fell “just short” of the central business district of downtown Columbus.

Short North is located in Franklin County and is a part of zip code 43201. It lies north of Interstate 670, in between the neighborhoods of Victorian Village and Italian Village. The community lies near downtown Columbus, the Arena District, German Village, Ohio State University, and the Convention Center.

High Street is the main hub for all of the area’s best art galleries, restaurants, pubs, fashion boutiques, and gift shops. Most of the buildings were constructed in the early 20th century. Traditional storefronts, painted with bright murals, line High Street.

Local art galleries host a “Gallery Hop” on the first Saturday of every month. The galleries stay open until late into the night, while street performers entertain the masses. This active community also has an annual “Doo Dah Parade,” held on the Fourth of July. This fun-loving parade is a parody of traditional parades.

This diverse, urban neighborhood branches out from historic Goodale Park. Columbus’ first park was a gift from Dr. Lincoln Goodale, the first doctor to live in Columbus. The park has a quiet, small pond, a tree-shaded walking trail, playgrounds, tennis courts, and a dog park.
